United Healthcare Breast PumpWith the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2012, all new moms are now eligible for a free breast pump through United Healthcare. Ameda Direct has partnered with United Healthcare/UNC to provide Ameda’s most comprehensive breast pump, the Ameda Purely Yours Ultra, as the covered benefit. Ameda Direct can help you qualify for your breast pump with no cost to you. Read below to find out more about the insurance guidelines for breast pumps from United Healthcare.

When can I request my pump?

The guidelines for breast pump dispersal from UHC stipulate that a mom not receive her pump until 30 days before her due date, but some plans have an exception. The best way to determine if you are eligible for a free breast pump before your due date is to complete our breast pump ordering form. Ameda Direct and Medline will work with your insurance plan to verify when you are eligible for your pump and will ship your Ameda Breast Pump to you as soon as you are eligible.  We recommend completing this form at least two months prior to your due date to allow us time to verify your benefits and get your pump shipped out well before your due date.

Receiving your breast pump before your due date allows you to have some time to open up the pump and familiarize yourself with how to assemble and clean the pump before your new one arrives. All Ameda breast pumps include a Spanish/English DVD to familiarize yourself with the features and benefits of the Ameda breast pumps.

Will I Need a Prescription from my Doctor?

Breast pumps are considered a durable medical equipment item (E0603) and require that a physician sign a prescription and diagnosis code. If you have your prescription in hand, our lactation specialists will ask for it when taking your order by phone or we allow you to upload/email it to use when placing your order online via our breast pump request form.

If you do not have a prescription yet from your doctor we will work with your physician to obtain a prescription prior to the shipment of your free breast pump. If you are closer to your due date, we recommend visiting your doctor prior to calling us to ensure that you receive your Ameda pump in the fastest time possible.

What about Spare Parts and Accessories?

Having a successful breastfeeding experience is our number one goal here at Ameda Direct, and we want to ensure that you have all the tools to help with your breastfeeding journey. Breast pump spare parts and accessories are offered through most United Healthcare plans, but there are a few exclusions. Once you receive your breast pump through Ameda Direct, you will be enrolled in our Continuum of Care program which gives you exclusive access to all the spare parts and accessories from Ameda. If your plan does not cover the cost of extra parts, we will offer you member-exclusive discounts on our entire catalog of spare parts and accessories. The Continuum of Care program also gives you access to a library of videos, how-to’s and general tips to keep you pumping.
